Meet Janosch & His Beloved Characters

Janosch is one of the most beloved children’s authors and illustrators in the German-speaking world. His gentle, whimsical tales (especially Oh, How Lovely is Panama) have sold millions of copies, been translated into more than 30 languages, and adapted into TV and films. At the heart of his stories are characters that teach timeless lessons about friendship, courage, and happiness in life’s simple things.

Tiger & Bear - The best friends at the heart of Janosch’s most famous book, The Trip to Panama. Fun-loving and unconventional, Tiger and Bear set out in search of their dreamland but realise along the way that the greatest adventures and true happiness are often found with good friends.
Tigerente (Tiger Duck) - Perhaps the most iconic Janosch character, the Tiger Duck is a little yellow-and-black striped wooden duck on wheels, always pulled along on a string. It’s playful, instantly recognisable, and beloved across generations.
Günter Kastenfrosch - A wise little green frog who’s curious and clever, often appearing alongside Tiger and Bear.
